Today, along with emails and chats, several other online communication modes have evolved along with social networking sites. The huge popularity of social media gives evidence of the acceptance of social networking all across the Internet.

Online marketers providing search engine marketing services have started using the popularity to their aid.
They are using the social media as a powerful and potential tool for online marketing. Studies reveal that the participation of online users in social networking activities is 67% as against the email users that is 65%. The reason behind the success of social media marketing is their mode of approach.

Unlike email marketing which is targeted to a specific client or a list of clients, the messages posted in social media sites are open to the entire world. This gives them an edge over email marketing. Email marketing has an advantage in such scenarios.

Since email marketing services are directed towards a specific target audience, they stand a better chance of conversions. Another advantage which email marketing has over social media is the heavy traffic. These sites are overloaded with blogs, images, videos, messages, etc. and are always overcrowded.

Both social media and email marketing have their own advantages and disadvantages and marketers must combine both to make the most.
