Underground London ? Finding A Poker Game If You?Re Stuck In London For The Night

There is no doubt about it – London is one big city and one of the largest business hubs in the world. Every day thousands of suits fly in to negotiate ground breaking deals that rock the world (or send us into financial oblivion, it seems, depending on which side of the city you live in).
If you are a jet setting business man (or woman) it is highly likely that your business travel often leaves you stranded in a city for one or two nights, so you’ll know what I’m talking about here.
There are only so many times you can re-straighten your tie using the trouser press. Ordering room service was fun for maybe the first ten trips but you have tried everything on the menu and now all you crave is your wife’s home cooking along with your local sport on your TV on your sofa at home. And if you get really desperate, you may find yourself in the hotel bar, where the only people looking more stranded and lonely than you are the hookers.
Believe me, through my twenties I spent quality time travelling the UK staying in towns as diverse as Swindon, Dudley, Cardiff, Doncaster and Aberdeen whilst working for a tobacco company. Now don’t get me wrong, each of those places are terrific in their own right, but well on your own – after a long day placing cigarette merchandising materials in corner shops? It was soul destroying.
What could make this trip better? What could save my soul? Well interacting with like-minded people would be a good start. Throw in a dose of fun and excitement – well there is no doubt I would have been there.
Fun and excitement is definitely what can be found in a game of Poker. The game is perfect for taking your mind off the stress of work and everyday life and provides far more excitement than the trouser press.
This is why The London Poker Circuit caught my attention. Basically, the Circuit consists of poker festivals and high roller Texas Hold ‘Em tournaments throughout the year in three central London hotels – The Westbury Mayfair, The Kingsway Hall Covent Garden and the Kensington Close Hotel.
These tournaments could just be the answer to keeping your evening light, fun and not a complete waste.
Tournament buy ins start at £100 and for the first time ever in the UK you can play cards for an evening in a VIP hotel setting rather than a dingy card room as has been the practice in the UK until now. Now I only hope that hotels around the country will follow suit so I have a card game to look forward to next time I’m staring forlornly at a Travelodge coffee maker somewhere in the Midlands.
